Continuing GFH Eligibility

Before the end of each semester we ask all residents to evaluate their current academic situation to determine eligibility for Graduate and Family Housing.

As long as your are enrolled in classes for each semester (including summer semesters) you are automatically eligible to continue living in Graduate and Family Housing. If you will not be enrolled in classes next semester either due to graduation or other reasons, you are required to move out of your apartment one week after the end of the semester.

There are two exceptions to the requirement to move out within one week after the end of the semester:

You have received permission in writing from GFH to remain in the apartment
You have a move out date that is prior to the end of the semester

If you would like to stay longer, you can request permission to remain in Graduate and Family Housing for an additional amount of time.

Taking a Semester Off From Classes
Residents may take one semester off during any 12 month period and remain in Graduate and Family Housing. Residents may not take consecutive semesters off from class and they may not take a semester off from classes if they have taken one of the previous two semesters off. If you would like to take a semester off from classes please email Sue Hamel.

Move Out Petitions
To request permission to remain in Graduate and Family Housing for any additional time beyond the date that you are required to move out, please email Sue Hamel to make your request.

Provide as much information as possible. Also, include your 8-digit UF ID number in the email, your current building and apartment number and how long you want to remain in Graduate and Family Housing.

You will receive a response within two business days.

The earlier you send your request, the better your chances. Requests received within 60 days of the end of the semester may not be approved.
