E-Mail Notification of Available Apartments

This message has been updated a little for December 2007.

Mostly, it has been updated to reflect some of our work with our "apartment offer E-mail system."

----------------

Our E-mail notification program that we use to send you messages about available apartments has many advantages, but it also has some "pesky challenges" that I know about.

One of the biggest is that it is NOT easy for me to tell the computer....

"I have 10 TWO-bedroom apartments that I want to tell people about. If someone only wants ONE-bedroom apartments, please do not send them the very long message."

Now, that same sentence is also true if we switch places with the words "ONE" and "TWO" in that statement. [smile]

Currently, it is much more efficient to send the message to anyone who has applied for ANY apartment. I can, however, narrow down the list easily by application date.

So sometimes, I do choose to do this if it helpful from our point of view. [smile]

We are working on our ability to choose better... who to send the message to.

I do know my E-mail messages can be long.

However, EVERYTHING in the E-mail message is there because of one of these three reasons.

(1) We used to get many, many (say "many" eight more times) questions asking about it.

(2) I think you have a right to know about the information ahead of time.

(3) If we don't tell you the information, it causes huge problems for our OFFICIAL OFFER process and for how fairly we can manage all several hundred applications.

If the people who have submitted applications recently could more easily talk to people who submitted them one year ago... I think the people who submitted applications one year ago would tell the newer people how much we have improved in the areas of fairness and communicating.

We can do better.... and we will... but I just thought you would like to hear my thoughts on this issue.

Oh.... and fixing that ONE/TWO bedroom "challenge" is at the top of our next upgrade wish list.

Our programmers are working on that issue this month.

Thanks as always for your patience and understanding.
